The Rector of International Balkan University (IBU), Prof. Dr. Lütfi Sunar, met with the media representatives to share the university’s vision for the new academic year, its achievements, and future goals. During the meeting held on December 12, 2024, IBU's innovative projects, societal contributions, and leadership position in the international arena were emphasized.
In his speech, Rector Sunar highlighted IBU’s mission as one of the leading educational institutions in the region, providing education at international standards and training future leaders. The university’s strong academic staff and student diversity strengthen its position in global education.
- Academic Staff and Student Profile
According to data shared during the meeting, which was attended by senior executives from many media outlets in the country, IBU’s academic staff leads the way in gender equality. Women make up 62% of the staff, and the international diversity within the staff is also noteworthy. More than 60% of the academic staff hold doctoral degrees, which is an indicator of the quality of the institution.
Half of the 3,800 active students enrolled at IBU are international, while the other half are from North Macedonia. The average scholarship rate for North Macedonian students is 65%, and 20% of all students receive full scholarships.
- Innovative Approach in Education and Research
Rector Sunar stated that IBU offers a wide range of academic options with its 9 faculties, 30 undergraduate programs, and 27 graduate programs. In the 2023-2024 academic year, a total of 1,067 courses were offered, and the success rate of students in these courses was recorded at 70%. This achievement reflects the university's commitment to quality education.
- International Collaborations and Societal Contributions
The meeting emphasized IBU's position as the leading university in North Macedonia for Erasmus+ exchange programs and its establishment of a global network with over 400 active collaborations and partnership agreements. It was also highlighted that social responsibility projects are among the university's key priorities.
- Future Vision
Rector Sunar also provided information about the international conferences and academic events organized by IBU, stating that over 300 seminars and workshops are held annually, making continuous contributions to the academic community. The message was given that the university will continue its leadership in the education world through its scientific and societal contributions.

After the meeting, media representatives had the opportunity to tour IBU’s newly opened laboratories. These laboratories are among the largest and most modern university laboratories in North Macedonia. The Rector noted that these investments aim to offer students practical education opportunities and support scientific research.
